A wide range of component malfunctions can hinder your oven's operation. If your oven control fails to activate, the controls malfunction, or the oven refuses to heat up, you'll undoubtedly want to restore its functionality promptly.
Occasionally, you may be able to resolve an issue on your own by following the basic troubleshooting steps outlined in your oven's owner's manual. If your oven fails to power on, resetting a tripped circuit breaker in your home may restore electricity to it. Additionally, turning off the oven's circuit breaker for three minutes and then restoring power can reboot the electronic control board, potentially resolving unresponsive controls.
Common Repairs for Both Gas and Electric Ovens
For safety reasons, all electric ovens are equipped with at least one thermal fuse that automatically shuts off when the oven overheats or experiences an electrical short that causes an excessive current draw. A faulty thermal fuse can prevent your oven from powering up or heating properly. Apart from replacing the blown fuse, a technician will inspect the oven to identify the underlying cause of the fuse tripping.
Repair or Replace the Oven's Temperature Sensor
As most ovens incorporate electronic controls, they rely on a sensor probe located within the oven cavity to detect temperature. This sensor's electrical resistance varies with temperature, allowing the electronic control board to monitor it and accurately gauge oven temperature. However, the oven temperature sensor probe can unexpectedly deteriorate or malfunction, leading to inaccurate temperature readings. In such cases, you might encounter an error code, or the thermal fuse may trip due to excessive heat. If the oven temperature sensor fails to function properly, a service technician will be required to repair or replace it. 
Install a Brand New Control Panel
Over time, control panels deteriorate, with labels fading and control buttons malfunctioning due to prolonged use. Internal contacts and display elements are prone to failure at any moment. If your oven's control panel exhibits signs of wear or stops functioning, it's advisable to engage a qualified service technician to replace it with a new one.
Replace the Cooling Fan Assembly
The cooling fan blows air across the electronic control board and control panel to keep them from overheating during oven use. You may see an error code appear on the oven display when the cooling fan stops working. A failed cooling fan can also cause a thermal fuse to trip in the oven controls. You may hear the cooling fan making noise when it’s about to failure. Have a service technician replace the cooling fan if it makes noise or it stops working.
